Prevention
Prevention is better than cure and we offer various services to help you stay healthy for longer. We also have information leaflets on a wide range of medical matters - available from the Practice Nurse.
Cervical Smears
We operate a 3 year recall system for ladies aged 25-49 years and a 5 year recall for ladies aged 50-64 years.
Prostate Cancer
If you are over 50 and are concerned about prostate cancer, please contact the surgery with a view to a full assessment. Click here to access the fact sheet which explains the process. We will arrange for you to have a telephone appointment with a doctor to discuss your concerns and to arrange for any necessary tests.
Blood Pressure
A check is recommended at least every three years. Keeping your weight down, avoiding excess alcohol and not smoking will help significantly. The self service blood pressure machine is available to use at the back of the reception waiting area. Please rest before using to give an accurate reading and take a couple of readings to hand to reception. Please include your name and date of birth on your blood pressure readings.
Violent Patients
Patients who are violent, aggressive or threatening towards GPs, staff or other patients may be removed from the practice's patient list.
Non-NHS Services
Certain services provided by the doctors are not covered by the NHS and you may be asked to pay a fee.
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Friends and Family Test in General Practice
The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is a feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use the NHS should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience, which can be used to improve services.
The primary aims of the FFT are to:-
- gather useful feedback from people who use services that can be fed directly to the staff that provide their care, in a simple format, in near real time.
- identify areas where improvements can be made so practical action can be taken
- inform current and prospective patients about the experiences of those who use the practices services
The FFT question asks if people would recommend the services they have used and offers a range of responses, with a free text option for additional comments.
A copy of the questionnaire is available in reception at the surgery.
Details of Patient Responses will be published in the surgery and on the website.
Patient Access to their GP Record
As a practice we are required to offer online access to summary information from your patient record. At present, the available information is limited but it is planned to include your allergies, medications and adverse reactions.
In view of the confidential nature of the information available, patients wishing to access this information are now required to complete an application form and present it at reception. Two forms of identification (from your passport, driving licence, bank statement or credit card statement) are required of which one must include your photograph.
Patients who already have online access to book appointments or order repeat prescriptions are required to complete an application form and provide the necessary identification if they wish to have online access to their medical records. An application form and explanatory leaflet may be collected at reception.
On submission of the application form, a Username and Password will be made available if an account is not already created, and you will be informed of your full access to your medical record.
The NHS IT scheme is changing year on year so we expect that, within the near future, more information will be available to view online.
